The Reba and Art Douglass Religious School strives to provide relevant and engaging instruction to the children of our congregation. Classes are structured to accommodate participants ranging in age from primary grades through high school. Classes meet every Thursday from 4 to 6 PM, as well as on Shabbat morning for Junior Congregation and Parsha study. Specific information regarding the participation opportunities for children and families is available by checking for Hebrew School events on this website or by calling the Temple Administrator.
Bar and Bat Mitzvah students receive special attention as the Rabbi, Cantor and faculty work to assist the prospective bar/bat mitzvah candidate in gaining both familiarity and practice in synagogue skills. A “standards based” checklist of competencies required for bar/bat mitzvah is available for parents and will be discussed when the initial planning meeting with Rabbi is scheduled.
Our Religious School, under the direction of Dr. Hilary Greenberg, JD, is, we believe, a warm and caring community of scholars – old and young – whose aim is to broaden, deepen and enrich the study and practice of Conservative Judaism.
Welcome! We are delighted to have you as part of the Temple Israel family – may your childrens’ time with us be fulfilling in every way!
