Temple Israel celebrates Interfaith Harmony with a fantastic weekend of learning and enlightenment with our special guest, Rabbi Capers Funnye, Jr., Head Rabbi at Beth Shalom B’nai Zaken Ethiopian Hebrew Congregation, Chicago, Illinois and Chief Rabbi, International Israelite Board of Rabbis.

Temple Israel of Scranton is proud to announce that Rabbi Capers Funnye, Jr. will join us in Scranton to discuss his Sacred Journey to Judaism, with a unique program that also draws attention to the rebirth of Judaism in Africa, the history of African-American Judaism, Global Judaism, Diversity, and Interfaith Harmony.

Rabbi Capers C. Funnye, Jr., has been dubbed President Barack “Obama’s Rabbi” by The New York Times.

Fri. night: Services (5:45 PM) followed by Shabbat Dinner (RSVP/charge); Lecture – “The History of the Black Jewish Movement in America”.

Shabbat day: Services (9:30 AM) followed by a festive Shabbat Kiddush Lunch (RSVP/no charge); Lecture – “Emerging Jewish Communities in Africa”.

Sunday morning: Brunch, sponsored by Temple Israel Sisterhood, @ 10 AM; Lecture – “My Sacred Journey to Judaism” (RSVP/Free to Temple Members/ $10 person others).

Tickets for the Friday Night Dinner and lecture are available for $25 per person for Temple Israel members and $40 per person ($75 per couple) for others by calling the Temple Office.
